Cherilyn Mackrory, Member of Parliament for Truro and Falmouth, is encouraging people from the constituency to participate in call for evidence on views from those with lived experience of, or views on, crimes considered as violence against women and girls.
The Government is seeking your views to help inform the development of their next Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy. They are particularly keen to hear from people who may feel underrepresented in previous strategies or who feel their circumstances were not supported by existing services.
In addition to those with lived experiences of these issues, they are also seeking the views of those with expertise in working with victims and survivors, those involved in preventative activity, and those involved in providing services. This includes relevant professionals, such as those working in social care, education, law enforcement, local government, public health and healthcare.
Everyone aged 16 or over is welcome to contribute to the call for evidence, you do not have to have experienced violence or abuse to take part.
Cherilyn said:
“The Government has taken significant steps in this area, including strengthening the law on crimes such as stalking, forced marriage and female genital mutilation, providing significant funding for crucial frontline services and support organisations, and increasing protection and support for victims and those at risk through measures such as “Clare’s Law”, along with the Domestic Abuse Bill.
However, there is always more to do to ensure these terrible crimes that disproportionately affected women and girls are properly dealt with and victims supported.”
I am pleased that the Government has come forward with this call for evidence and encourage anyone with experience of these crimes, or in working to support the victims of them to come forward and take part in this important piece of work.”
