Truro MP Cherilyn Mackrory has today welcomed Minister for Housing and Rough Sleeping Eddie Hughes to Truro.
Cherilyn said:
"It was a pleasure to welcome Eddie Hughes MP, Minister for Housing and Rough Sleeping, to Truro this morning to show him around Cornwall Councils’ new temporary accommodation units on the site of Old County Hall.
These units have been bought and installed to help tackle the housing crisis, to help house those who are homeless. As it stands, Travelodges’ and B&Bs are used for temporary accommodation to house people who find themselves homeless in Cornwall. Millions are spent each year on this.
The council are now buying their own temporary accommodation housing stock and these units offer a safe place for people to live with their own front door. They will be used temporarily while suitable, permanent accommodation is found for them.
These low carbon units aren’t quite ready yet, but after everything has been finalised and the groundwork landscaped, Cornish residents should start moving in shortly.
All units are fully furnished and ready to be moved in to."
