Cherilyn Mackrory MP for Truro and Falmouth has welcomed the announcement by the Department for Education that the UK Government will be supporting schools with a record £850 million investment, including £9,701.294 for Cornwall.
This money will be used to provide specialist support for children with autism, learning difficulties, mobility difficulties, and more to meet their needs, including extra encouragement in their learning, helping with communication with other children, and supporting their physical and emotional care difficulties.
Since 2010 the Government have helped local councils to deliver 60,000 new places for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and in Alternative Provision (AP) and improve the accessibility of existing buildings, providing more specialist support for children with additional needs.
The Government are sticking with the plan to ensure that every child receives the support and education they need to succeed, where hard work is rewarded, and aspiration is celebrated.
Cherilyn says:
“Our children are the future of our community and deserve the chance to succeed no matter their background or physical and mental needs. I am so pleased that this money is coming to Cornwall. Our fantastic council is doing so much to make sure all children here in the community have this chance, and the new £9,701.294 of Government funding will do so much to help those who need it and give all our children a fighting chance to succeed and achieve their full potential.”
