Truro and Falmouth MP Cherilyn Mackrory has called on the government to review regulations for short-term holiday lets in Cornwall.
Speaking at a Westminster Hall debate, Cherilyn said:
“Since my election in 2019 I have seen many people moving to Cornwall who wanted to flip their properties into short-term holiday lets. For many the solution is to build more, and we have been accursed of not building enough in Cornwall. But this is not true.
I would like to pay tribute to Cornwall Council who, alongside other partners, are starting to produce over 1000 homes a year. Over 700 homes in the last two years are affordable. That’s more than Leeds and it’s more than Manchester. Cornwall is doing its bit for building affordable homes and has been in the top two areas for building affordable homes in the last ten years and has been at the forefront of asking the government to launch the sort of consultation we are asking for today to register second homes and to change the planning laws around short-term holiday lets.
This is because we have a conservative-led council and six conservative MPs who are working with the government to make the changes we need to see.”
The Government invites people throughout Cornwall to take part in the consultation and to make sure their views and voices are heard.
