Today, 9,700 households in Truro and Falmouth will receive the first of three cost of living support payments worth £301. By November 2023 this will total £900 paid to all families across the UK receiving means-tested benefits, with some families receiving up £1,350 of support.
Truro and Falmouth MP Cherilyn Mackrory says, “In times of difficulty, it is important that communities come together. I am proud of the support this conservative Government has given to help the most vulnerable in Cornwall and across the UK.”
These payments will help families with day-to-day costs and tackle inflationary pressure caused by the pandemic and Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. They will be accompanied by an additional £150 for people receiving disability benefits, and a £300 payment on top of Winter Fuel Payments for pensioners at the end of 2023.
This support builds on previous cost of living assistance including £1,500 off energy bills for the most vulnerable and will be paid for through a windfall tax on energy company profits.
Announcing this support, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says, “we’re working flat out to halve inflation and grow the economy, but I want to make sure everyone has peace of mind about the cost of living.”
