Cherilyn Mackrory MP for Truro and Falmouth hails the Boscowen Fields Action Group’s success in transforming the coastal path between Gyllyngvase Beach and Swanpool Beach in Falmouth.
Boscowen Fields Action Group are a volunteer-led community action group formed nine years ago and coordinated by founders Lynn and Tony. During this time, they have raised over £52,000 towards improving the local area. Their most recent project, to widen and improve access to the popular coastal path from Gyllyngvase Beach has been well received locally. The new path hosts a diverse range of plants, high-quality benches with spectacular views including towards Pendennis Castle.
A principal requirement for the work was to make the whole route compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act. This has been achieved throughout, opening the path to everyone in Falmouth to enjoy.
Cherilyn says:
“The Cornish coast is one of those places which rivals anywhere else in the world, and the work Tony and Lynn have done to bring this pathway to more people in Falmouth and elsewhere is outstanding.
“Here in Cornwall, we do community better than anywhere else. I know this would not have been possible without the determination and passions of local people working together to make it happen. Projects like this matter, they are how we transform our communities and keep them successful for everyone for generations. Personally, I cannot wait to see where they go next.”
Following Their success, the Boscowen Fields Action Group are working hard on the next phase of the project. Their goal is to install CCTV to deter antisocial behaviour, and to place a granite boulder with an inset, directional map on the path with information about the bay, enhancing and informing on the view.
