Cherilyn Mackrory MP for Truro and Falmouth is delighted by the opportunity for young people across her constituency, and the rest of the UK to celebrate Parliament Week this week.
Parliament week is an annual event designed to spread the word about what Parliament is, and how they can get involved. Participating schools and other organisations can apply for an activity kit including the Big Ben ballot box, an activity booklet, and even a board game called ‘The Ayes Have It’. Last year 1.1 million people in the UK and worldwide took part in Parliament Week, taking part in an important discussion in their classrooms and online about how to get involved in the democratic process.
The celebration encourages other activities, including quizzes, baking, petitions, and school council elections. Participants have the chance to nominate themselves and each other as UK Parliament Week Champion, with nominations open throughout the week.
Cherilyn says:
“Young people are the future of our democracy, and events like Parliament Week are a really exciting way for our children to get involved and learn about how Parliament works, and to have some fun along the way.”
