Truro and Falmouth’s Member of Parliament Cherilyn Mackrory has held a debate in Parliament on reducing baby loss.
The MP, who tragically lost a baby late in pregnancy in 2019, spoke in her role as Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Baby Loss, about the work the Government needs to do to reach its ambition to halve the rate of stillbirths and neonatal deaths by 2025.
Following the debate Cherilyn met with the Minister to further discuss what the government can do in this important area.
Speaking after the debate Cherilyn said:
“I am pleased to see that progress has been made towards this ambition to halve the rate of stillbirths and neonatal deaths by 2025, with the Health and Social Care Select Committee stating in a recent report that good progress has been made towards achieving a 50% reduction by 2025.”
“But much more work needs to be done, both in this area but also in reducing maternal deaths, where it is disappointing to see no discernible progress made, and to ensure that mums and babies from all backgrounds are affected by the improvements. There is also the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to fully assess.”
“I will continue to work with the Government on these ambitions, to ensure our amazing health professionals are fully supported to carry out their difficult work, and the tragedy of baby loss is reduced wherever we can.”
