Cherilyn Mackrory, Member of Parliament for Truro and Falmouth, has been elected co-chair of a cross party group in Parliament that seeks to conserve our oceans.
Along with fellow Cornish MP Derek Thomas, Cherilyn was elected co-chair of the group by colleagues from across Parliament.
The Ocean Conservation All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) is a powerful and unique platform representing the voice of the ocean. Its purpose is to bring together parliamentarians from all political parties, with cross-sectorial stakeholders including environmental NGOs, academics, and business leaders to, discuss, develop and drive solutions to protect and restore the marine environment through policy and legislative change.
Cherilyn said:
“I am delighted to be elected by my Parliamentary colleagues to co-chair the Ocean Conservation All Party Parliamentary Group.”
“As a keen environmentalist and member of the Conservative Environment Network, as well as member of the Environmental Audit Select Committee, I know it has never been more important to ensure our oceans are conserved and protected for ours and generations to come.”
“With the recent passing of the Government’s landmark Environment Bill, we must keep up this momentum and do all we can to build on our achievements. I look forward to working with colleagues across Parliament as co-chair of the Ocean Conservation APPG to do just that.”
Cherilyn has been a member of the Ocean Conservation APPG since shortly after her election, and follows fellow Cornish MP Steve Double in leading this group.
