Cherilyn Mackrory, MP for Truro and Falmouth, has been accepted onto this year's Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, where she will have the opportunity to learn more about our Armed Forces and gain an insight into the incredible work they do to keep us and our allies safe.
The Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme gives MPs (and members of the House of Lords) the opportunity to gain a first-hand insight into military life.
Parliamentarians on the scheme visit a wide variety of establishments in the service to which they are attached, meeting personnel of all ranks to learn about the realities of serving in His Majesty's Armed Forces. The aim is to enable MPs to make a more informed and useful contribution to defence debates in the House of Commons.
Cherilyn said:
“Cornwall has a proud military tradition, with strong and enduring links to our armed forces. With Falmouth set to take centre stage hosting National Armed Forces Day 2023, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a true insight into the lives, roles and dedication of all our servicemen and women.
I am on the Royal Navy branch of the scheme this year, which has begun with an interesting and memorable couple of days with our Royal Marines at their principal training centre in Devon- the Commando Training Centre (CTCRM).
I look forward to the challenges this scheme will bring and hope that my learning on the course will help me represent the servicemen, servicewomen and veterans of Truro and Falmouth even more effectively in future when the Commons debates defence matters.”
