Last year, £50 million was granted by the Government to build the Mid Cornwall Metro, connecting communities between Falmouth, Penryn, Truro, St Austell, and Newquay with a reliable, regular train service.
Part of this project is the construction of Active Travel Schemes with new bus and cycle routes, and improved interconnectivity between communities. This includes a proposed expansion of the existing cycle paths on Commercial Road for both sides of the existing road, as well as the construction of new bus stops.
More information on the Mid Cornwall Metro can be found on the Mid Cornwall Metro - official site
After speaking with residents and businesses in Penryn, I know that opinions on the scheme are split. For several businesses, the scheme will bring new potential customers to their doorsteps, but many businesses also rely on on-road parking for customer access and there is a concern about the consequences of reducing this.
The aim of the Mid Cornwall Metro is to benefit people across our community, and that means it must also work for you. To help make this possible, I invite you to complete my survey, and let me know what you think of the Active Travel Scheme, and what it means for you and the future of Commercial Road.
