The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock, has visited Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske, to thank local staff for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and confirm progress on two major projects for Cornwall’s main hospital.
During his visit, the Secretary of State confirmed that RCHT’s Oncology Ward and MRI re-Provision programme has now been approved.
He also reiterated that a new women’s and children’s hospital for RCHT continues to be one of the 40 new hospitals that the Government is prioritising on delivering.
Truro and Falmouth’s Member of Parliament Cherilyn Mackrory has been working with RCHT management and the Government to press the case for funding. Cherilyn joined the Secretary of State at his visit and said:
“I have been working hard with RCHT management, local NHS organisations and colleagues with the Department of Health and Social Care to bring in these exciting new facilities for our main hospital.”
“I was delighted to today welcome the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to Treliske so he can see for himself the need for these upgraded facilities, and was pleased to today get his confirmation that the upgrades of our crucial Oncology Ward and MRI units have now been approved.”
“There is always more to do though, and it was also good to get reaffirmation from the Secretary of State of the Government’s continued commitment to build a new Women’s and Children’s hospital on the Treliske site.”
“Combined with being able to personally see and thank so many of our amazing health care workers across Treliske, today was a very good day for our hospital, and I will continue to work at every level of Government to ensure this site and the people who work there are given the maximum level of support.”
