Cherilyn Mackrory, MP for Truro and Falmouth, has welcomed Andrea Leadsom MP to Falmouth to meet with Cornwall Council and learn more about their ‘Early Help Service’ and ‘Best Start in Life’ work. The MP’s were also joined by Cllr Ellenbroek(Portfolio Holder on Cornwall Council for Children and Families) and Meredith Teasdale (Strategic Director Together For Families on Cornwall Council).
The group began their tour by meeting with team members from WILD – which works closely with Cornwall Council children’s service to provide young families with the support they need. The project helps parents with practical parenting and skills and provides a space to make friends with other young parents and share experiences.
Following on from this, the group met team members helping to deliver the Government’s Best Start in Life vision for improving new-borns’ first 1001 days. This included meeting the Together for Families Cornwall staff and the team at Dadpad – a new app developed with the NHS to give new dads and dads-to-be the knowledge and skills needed to gain confidence and give their baby the best start in life.
Cherilyn said:
“It has been brilliant to work with Andrea Leadsom MP in recent years to ensure early child development sets the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour, and health.”
“I was delighted to show Andrea some best practice from our excellent early year’s teams in Falmouth and was pleased to hear her praise the brilliant work going on locally.”
“Cornwall is doing such a great job compared to some other parts of the country, and I am lobbying for us to be a ‘trailblazer’ which could secure extra funds to excel and share best practices from our excellent Together for Families team with other localities.”
