Cherilyn Mackrory, MP for Truro and Falmouth, secured a Prime Minister’s Questions question today (20th July) and used the opportunity to urge the government to continue prioritising levelling up Cornwall.
Cherilyn began by placing on record her thanks for the firefighters of Cornwall, who were extremely busy and courageous yesterday in dealing with several blazes across Cornwall as the country experienced unusually high temperatures.
Cherilyn thanked the Prime Minister for his support and enthusiasm for Cornwall over the last few years, not least for the hosting of the G7 last year, but also for the commitment to invest £132million into Cornwall as part of the Shared Prosperity Fund, which at £213 per head, far exceeds the national average (£17 per head).
Cherilyn asked the Prime Minister if he would agree that his enthusiasm for levelling up every part of the UK needs to carry on in the future.
Responding, the Prime Minister said:
“My friend is a fantastic champion for Cornwall, and we will continue with our programme to support the South West, whether it’s through the A303 or broadband. Cornwall has a bright future with her as a representative”
