Cherilyn Mackrory, Member of Parliament for Truro and Falmouth has met with hero police dog Finn as part of the campaign to raise awareness for Finn’s Law Part 2, a Private Member’s Bill to toughen up sentencing on some animal welfare offences that is returning to Parliament later this year.
Cherilyn said:
“It was an honour to meet beautiful Finn, a canine police officer who was stabbed in the lung whilst on duty.”
“As a dog owner and animal lover I think the current sentencing for some animal welfare offences is far too lenient.”
“That’s why I am delighted to join with colleagues from across Parliament to support Finn’s Law, a Private Member’s Bill, which will see maximum sentencing for some offences under the Animal Welfare Act (2006) go up to 5 years, from the current maximum of only 6 months.”
Finn’s Law is due to come back to Parliament and hopefully pass into law in June this year.
